Crisafulli’s sop to extremists

Electoral cowardice dressed up as law and order

Queensland now criminalises the language of resistance while granting complete immunity to explicit, dehumanising calls for collective punishment and annihilation. The result is not social cohesion, but a legislated double standard that protects one form of extremism while branding its critics as criminals.

As LNP votes bleed to One Nation, Nationals and Liberals are desperate to outdo each other in bowing and scraping to that 0.076% of our population that are cheerleaders for genocide. Of course, nobody misses the irony that they are hoping to hold on to votes that might go to the most overtly racist party in Australia’s history. But, who cares when you have elections to win?

No, in Queensland, you are forbidden to acknowledge a resistance movement that hopes to break out of a concentration camp called Gaza. And you are forbidden to state that the abolition of an apartheid state created by great powers as a sop to Zionists should be dismantled, just as apartheid South Africa was dismantled.

No matter. Openly antisemitic rhetoric, such as that by Mark Liebler, are totally acceptable, since the new laws make no mention of this kind of hate speech:

Nothing, but nothing, is worse than those Jews who level totally unfounded allegations of genocide and ethnic cleansing against the State of Israel. They are repulsive and revolting human beings. Their relatives who were murdered by the Nazis... will undoubtedly be turning in their graves.

Missing also is any condemnation, sanction or penalty for these vicious hate statements, public, attributable and uncontested:

We will turn Gaza into an island of ruins (Netanyahu)

It is entire nation who are responsible (Herzog)

There will be no electricity, no food, no fuel; everything is closed. We are fighting animals. (Gallant)

We are dropping hundreds of tons of bombs in Gaza. The focus is destruction, not accuracy (Hagari)

Now there is only one goal. Nakba. A Nakba in Gaza that will dwarf the Nakba of 1948 (Kallner)

Gaza to be smashed and razed to the ground (Getliv)

Wipe out their families, their mothers and their children. These animals must not be allowed to live any longer (Yachin)

These hate preachers need fear no law nor arrest in Queensland, should they choose to holiday on the Sunshine Coast. After all, Zionist extremists are protected.

Thanks, David, for your thoroughly cynical, politically motivated laws that strengthen our perception of a double standard and destroy our social fabric. But do you really think it will get those One Nation votes back?

Very unlikely to get those votes back - Jews and Labor are neck and neck in the hate rhetoric of One Nation and the far right. Wait for their cheer squads to ramp up when Brenton Tarrant has his appeals refused.
